In fulfillment of its promise to football stakeholders, the Gambia Football Federation has again completed one of its Football projects at the Sere Kunda West Mini Stadium. The new state of the earth lighting system is the newest structure completed at the West Community football Field as part of the FIFA Forward 2.0 project.
The lighting system was tested at the West Park last week at the delight of the stakeholders and the local community. Speaking to the Federation website, the Public Relations Officer at the S/K West Sports Development Organization Mr Chebo Jeng said, the lights are a welcome development to the Community. “This will ease the pressure on fixture congestion on the committee and I can tell you that the lights are done and have been tested already, we are just waiting for the GFF to fix the date for the inauguration”.
He said the lights will help in the development of football in Sere Kunda West as a community and the Gambia in general. “We will have the privilege of playing night football. This will help ease the pressure on us as an Organizing Committee because we will now be able to meet up the GFF Calendar”. Jeng thanked The Gambia Football Federation for coming up with this brilliant initiative. ” I think the GFF has fulfilled their promise and we cannot but thank the football leadership for the gigantic strides in our football”. Other stakeholders at Sere Kunda West including Alpha Jallow and Mbye Camara both hailed the completion of the new project as “unprecedented”and said matches at West Park could even be watched at night. ” Its a development that we all welcome and we are really thankful to the GFF for fulfilling their promises”.
Sere Kunda West is part of a project meant for the construction of Mini Stadia at National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Yundum, Gunjur, Busumbala as well as floodlights for Banjul, Sere Kunda East and Brikama. The GFF/FIFA Projects Manager Alh Bakary K Jammeh has earlier indicated that the Sere Kunda West Lighting project is one of many that are currently ongoing as part of the GFF football projects. One part of the Forward Projects is meant to upgrade six (6) fields ie. Banjul, Bakau, Sere Kunda West, Sere Kunda East, Manjai and Brikama. The project as amongst others will also see the improvements of grass fields, artificial turfs, perimeter fences, boreholes and equipment support.
Another part of the Project is the construction of six (6) Regional Fields, (Kuntair, Basse, Bansang, Bullock, Kwinella, Sere Kunda Central), the swimming Pool at the Football Hotel which is fast ongoing and the Soma pavilion completion phase1 project.
With the completion of the Sere Kunda West Lighting project, the GFF is fast tracking on its promise to fulfilling what is been considered as pre requisite to playing good football. LCD Lights works are ongoing for the Banjul Mini Stadium, Brikama Box Bar and Serekunda East Mini Stadium.
