Gambia Football Federation has appointed Mr Alagi Sarr as Assistant Coach of the Senior National Team. Mr Sarr, former National team Goal keeper and professional player will begin his assignment when the Scorpions kick off their Afcon 2021 Group D Qualifiers away to Angola on the 13th November, 2019.

Sarr holds a CAF “C” and “B” Coaching License and began his playing career in 1978 as Goal keeper during the formative years. He switched to been a defender from 1980 to 1985 at a local club in Banjul where his potentials were realized that earned him professional fortune to West Germany where he played for SV Victoria FC from  1985-1990. He was Gambia National Team defender until 1992.

The Banjul born began his coaching career with Mass Sosseh Football Club one of  Gambia’s dominant local sides where he equally served as player from 1990-1994 winning with the club several silver wares. His first national assignment has been Assistant Coach at Senior level from 1996-1997. He returned to the Scorpions Team A from 1999- 2000 as Assistant Coach when the Gambia entered into the World Cup and Afcon Qualifiers looking for spots at both global and continental levels.

Sarr had significant spells with both Senior and Junior National Teams from 2005 to 2017 ranging from Gambia’s engagements at Zone Two, WAFU, CHAN, World Cup and Afcon Qualifers.

He is regarded Gambia’s most successful Coach at domestic level winning more titles than any other. Coach Sarr won silver wares with MASS SOSSEH FC (2 titles -FA and Super Cup), WALLIDAN FC (6 titles– 2 FA, 3 League 1 Super Cup), GPA (5 titles-1 FA, 2 League, 2 Super Cup), REAL DE BANJUL (2 titles– 1 League, 1 Super Cup) and competed at CAF Club Championships with different local clubs.

Mr Sarr’s appointment will be on engagement basis for the Scorpions where he is tasked to assist Head Coach Tom Saintfiet during the Afcon Qualifiers. Until his appointment Coach, Sarr is also Head Coach of B/K Milan Football Club at GFF League Division One.
