Gambia’s League Champions Gamtel and FF Cup Winners Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Football Club will both begin their respective campaigns in this season’s continental club football competitions away in Algeria and Ivory Coast. Gamtel is paired in the two-legged Champions League qualifiers against ASC Constantine of Algeria while GAF battles it out with San Pedro of the Cote D’Ivoire for a place in the next round of the Confederations Cup.
Both teams have arrived in their respective destinations during the course of last week and are set to be in action on Tuesday the 27th November, 2018. The return legs will be played in Bakau’s Independence Stadium a week later on December 4 and 5.
As part of our traditional annual support to clubs in continental competitions, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) will give each of the two teams D250,000:00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dalasi) as well as five days full-board accommodation at the Football Hotel during their home matches throughout their participation in the competitions. The GFF will further take charge of the indemnities, accommodation, and air tickets for the four match officials and the match commissioner during their home matches.
As a result of the engagements of the two Gambian representatives in the aforesaid competitions, it necessitated the postponement of the traditional curtain raiser Super Cup final earlier scheduled to take place over the weekend to herald the kickoff of the 2018/19 domestic league season. The two teams, who both have their opening league games also called off, will play the Super Cup final at a later date to be confirmed by the GFF.
