A selection of local based National Team players, dubbed CHAN Team, have started training at the National Technical Training Center (NTTC) in Old Yundum this week ahead of September 2019’s WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal.

The pre-selection exercise is guided by Head Coach of The Gambia’s CHAN and Olympic Teams, Mr. Omar K. Sise. In what would be a repeat of the opening match of the 2017 edition in Ghana, where the hosts won courtesy of a dubious last minute penalty, Sise’s charges will again play the Black Stars in the preliminary stages of the competition on September 28 at the Stade Lat-Dior in Thiès for a place in the group stages of the competition.

Speaking in an interview with www.gambiaff.org, Coach Sise said he and his technical team started screening the selected players beginning Monday July 8 ahead of the competition. “I’m very impressed with the commitment showed by the players so far. It is a good start although it is never easy but the amazing thing in this group is our first day turnout was very good which tells me that the boys are hungry to play,” he affirmed.

Sise further noted that he is currently trying to see as much players as possible. “It is a preliminary selection and we will have a final list later beginning Wednesday because I’m also expecting a call up to a few professionals before I will announce the final team.”

He thanked the GFF for the support in his endeavour to have the team grouped together for the screening exercise.
