The Gambia’s women national team intensified its technical preparations ahead of their double header CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The Gambians will continue their quest for a spot in Morocco when they play away in Yaoundé for the first leg on 18th February 2022.
Ahead of the first leg, Coach Mariama Bom Sowe spoke to the GFF Media and reaffirmed her team’s commitment to make history. “We have been waiting for this game since our last game in August [against Sierra Leone]; as you can see the training is on high gear. We train both physically and mentally towards the game on 18th February,” she said.
Boom noted that the aim of the team is to pick up a win in the first leg. “Although it will be a tough game but we want to win so that we can defend our lead in the second leg.”
She also disclosed that the team is expecting to be joined by five foreign based players for the matches, including Gambia’s record goal scorer Adama Tamba (France), Haleema Hamilton Froiland (Sweden), Ida Mbaye (Sweden), Penda Bah (Belarus) and Fatou Kanteh (Spain).
