The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has learnt with great sorrow and sadness, the demise of a player of one of our members, Brikama United Football Club. The President of the GFF, Mr. Lamin Kabba Bajo, was informed of the death of Jankey Bojang, a defender for Brikama’s women’s team this night.

Mr. Bajo described Jankey’s demise as a monumental loss to Gambian football. Describing her as a talented, disciplined and hardworking defender, Kabba on behalf of his Executive Committee and staff is sending deepest condolences to the family of the bereaved and Brikama United Football Club. While praying for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus, he also prayed for Allah to give the family the fortitude to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.

Brikama had earlier this evening announced that Jankey succumbed to his long illness in Kanfenda village of the Foni Kansala District in the West Coast Region, where he was said to be receiving treatment for an unspecified ailment.

“Bojang has been battling with illness for a long time as she missed the whole of last season before she was pronounced dead this afternoon. She was laid to rest this evening at 5pm in Casa Kunda,” Brikama United said in a statement.

“Jankey is beautiful both in and out and if discipline could prevent someone from death then she would have lived forever because she was hundred percent disciplined. She respected everyone at the club both teammates and her coaches.”
