The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) wishes to congratulate Red Scorpions for their maiden campaign in the WAFU A CAF Champions League qualifiers. Choro Mbenga’s side finished their campaign with a goalless stalemate against hosts Mogbewmo Queens of Sierra Leone to end their campaign on four points from as many matches.
Though they weren’t able to qualify for the group stages of the CAF Women’s Champions League, but there are a lot of positive takeaways from their four match outings with some scintillating displays, bravery and the expensive flair attacking football that they exhibited throughout the campaign. Kaddy Jatta also received Woman of the Match awards in two of the four matches.
“You shall ever be remembered for being the pioneer of the competition in the country. Your impeccable track record as the leader in Women’s Football is deeply commended and appreciated by the federation, and is serving as an inspiration, encouragement and motivation for the many young women and girls in the trade. Your laudable performance as beginners in the tournament is hailed by all. Hearty congratulations for representing the Federation and the entire country well,” President of the GFF Lamin Kabba Bajo said.
Following the conclusion of their campaign, Red Scorpions itself expressed their gratitude to Football House for the support it rendered to the Club throughout their journey. “On behalf of the staff and players of Red Scorpions Women Football Club, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Gambia Football Federation for their invaluable support during our journey to our first appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. This milestone is not just a personal achievement for our club but also a significant moment for women’s football in The Gambia,” Red Scorpions said in a statement on their official Facebook page.
“The Federation played a crucial role in facilitating the registration process for our participation in the tournament. Navigating the requirements set by CAF/WAFU can be complex, involving various documentation and compliance with specific criteria. The assistance provided by the Federation ensured that we met all necessary requirements efficiently and effectively. Their expertise and guidance were instrumental in preparing us for this prestigious competition.”
The club also reserved a special mention to the Federation’s fourth Vice President, Ms. Sainabou Cham, who was selected by the GFF to serve as the Head of Delegation. This is in addition to the financial and logistical support offered to the Gambian champions by the Football House.
“Miss Cham [the GFF Head of Delegation] not only led us with confidence but also ensured that we had access to all resources needed for a successful campaign. We received comprehensive support that included logistical arrangements, training facilities, and moral encouragement. This holistic approach allowed us to focus on our performance without being burdened by administrative challenges. We are immensely grateful to the Gambia Football Federation for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing women’s football in The Gambia,” Red Scorpions reaffirmed.
For the GFF supremo, Mr. Bajo, Red Scorpions must be commended for the courage and determination for following their dreams and ambition in leading the way for our Women’s football by participating in the competition. He also reassured that the Federation will not relent in our efforts and duty to provide all necessary support, guidance, and encouragement to them and all members to enable them to achieve their goals and objectives.
