Looking doomed as they head into week 17 of the first division league, PSV Wellingara’s slim quest for survival received a welcome boost on Friday when they stunned title hopefuls Brikama United with a 1-0 win at the Box Bar Mini Stadium.

For the first time in their history, the Wellingara based side’s points in the top flight reaches double figures with the three points taking the maiden first division campaigners to 11 points, five adrift of safety with night matches remaining. It was only the second win for PSV and if they would be hoping that Friday’s victory would spark the beginning of a positive sequence of results in their desperate fight to retain their top flight status.

Wallidan made it two wins on the bounce following a slender 2-1 defeat of city rivals Gambia Ports Authority at the King George V (KG5) Mini Stadium in Banjul. The Blues have 25 points, four adrift of new leaders Gambia Armed Forces who defeated reigning champions Gamtel 2-0 at the Box Bar Stadium in Brikama.

Real de Banjul is joint second with Brikama United on 28 points. The Whites defeated Banjul United 1-0 in a derby played at the KG5. Bakau Katchikally Milan saw off the challenge from Marimoo 1-0, in a match involving newly promoted sides at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. Hawks defeated Fortune 1-0 while relegation candidates Tallinding United and Samger played a 1-1 stalemate.
