Following the award of Sulayman Kuyateh and Ousman Drammeh as Coach of the Month for the First and Second Division respectively, both coaches led their teams to superb victories following the presentation of their prizes.
Kuyateh won the First Division Coach of the Month for the second consecutive month and followed it up by leading his side to a 4-0 win away to Bombada, with the Gamtel players delivering for their coach. The goals came from Adama Jarju, Modou Sarr and Baboucarr Jallow grabbed a brace. Most notably, the team has been winning in style, playing expansive attacking football which has brought the best out of the likes of Jallow and Yahya Ndong.
With Gamtel at the top the First Division standings with the best attack, best defence and with an unbeaten record, it is a well-deserved success for the former Brikama United coach, considering the position of Gamtel in comparison to this time last season. The telecommunications giants were languishing towards the bottom of the table and ended up in a relegation battle, but Kuyateh has given confidence back to the players and they look set for a fruitful campaign.
In much the same manner, Drammeh has received plaudits for delivering free-flowing football at BK Milan although he is very thankful to the players and technical team at his disposal. They were 3-0 winners over Immigration with Sarjo Sonko and a brace from Sankou Nyan settling matters and giving their boss the perfect celebrations. The coach has found the best form from his forward players, with Sankou Nyan in superb goal-scoring form after his exploits last season and is proving to be one of the most lethal attackers in the country.
In receiving the award, Drammeh dedicated the honour to his players. ‘It is such an honour for me to win the Coach of the Month but I can only take this award for the whole club – especially my players,’ he said. ‘They are the ones that have brought the results. We wanted to start the season well, we planned to be among the contenders but our position has exceeded expectations. We are very happy that we have started well but now we have to be focused to continue in this way.’
BK Milan are also table-toppers in the Second Division, leading the way on goal difference from powerhouses Wallidan thanks to an impresssive goal-scoring record that is the best in the country. All eyes will be on the team as they look to cope with the pressure of being favourites in the upcoming games.
The GFF Monthly Awards, endorsed by GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo, was established as a source of motivation and to inspire excellence and the coaches and players have responded to ensure that standards have improved across the board.
Congratulations to all the winners so far!
