Gambia Home Based national team(CHAN) have finally exited at the WAFU Plate Cup when they faced off Cape Verde in the first semi final played on Tuesday 8th October at Stade Lat Dior in Thies.

The Gambia succumbed to a one nil defeat from the first half of kick off which remained until at full time

The Young Scorpions dominated most part of the possession but lack the cutting edge at goal while their counterparts Cape Verde rallied large on counter attacks that eventually paid off.

Cape Verde were surviving by the skin of their teeth while the Gambia continued their dominance on ball but finally ended the game at one nil earning Cape Verde a place at the Wafu Plate Final.
Speaking to the federation website www.gambiaff.org, Coach Omar Sise expressed his disappointment on the result hence the energy and resources injected into the Young Scorpions. “I am really disappointed because our technical team have done a good job on the boys. You cant blame them so much as well because their ultimate is to win, but may be this is where we should end”.He noted the team’s inability to find the cutting edge at goal and that has caused deficits for the team.
He cried foul about the Referees’ decision on Gambia’s penalty claim at Tuesday semi final. “We had a clear penalty but you see the Wafu Referees will never change and that is not good for our football”.He however credited the organizers for a good job. “The format this year is better than the previous editions”. Coach Sise thanked the GFF for the support given out during the period and the stakeholders for their loyalty to the team.
The Team is expected in town on Thursday 10th October.
