A CAF B License Coaching Diploma Course got underway today at the home of Gambian football, the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Old Yundum. The course is organised by the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) in collaboration with CAF and has brought together 25 coaches, mainly from the domestic men and women first as well as second division leagues.
The First Vice President of the GFF Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh depustised the GFF President in the opening ceremony. The course will be held in three different blocks starting from this week’s block that will come to a close on January 26. The second block will see the same coaches return to the NTTC for another week from 27th to 23rd March. The third and final block will be held between May 19 to 24 and it will also witness the participation of the CAF instructors.
Mr. Jammeh emphasised the importance of capacity building as the cornerstone of the Federation’s success in football development. He said coaches are as important as the Federation hence their membership to the Gambia Football Coaches Association (GFCA). “You are members of the Federation because your Association is part of the GFF,” he remarked. “We know it is a difficult journey, some will not be aligned with us and it will take others long to understand the concept but our strategic focus is well on track and today our coaches are producing [quality] players.”
The Technical Director of the GFF, Sang John Ndong thanked the coaches for registering to the course. While commending them for their dedication, Ndong, who is also serving as the Course Director noted that there will be am assessment test at the end of the course duration and thus advised the participants to concentrate on the modules with seriousness.
Speaking earlier, the General Secretary Mr. Lamin M. Jassey also congratulated the coaches for their participation in the course. He thanked the Technical Department for the organisation and urged the participants to take the training seriously while assuring the coaches of the GFF’s support to their programs at all times.
The President of the GFCA Kebba Touray also thanked the GFF for the course. “It’s a dream come true because we have been yearning for this course for a long time. Thus, I’m encouraging you the participants to take the course seriously as it will enhance your competencies in coaching,” he added.
The Local Course instructors also include Honorable Alagie Sillah and Pa Suwareh Faye to be assisted by Lamin Sambou, Ebrima Nyassi and Kebba Njie.
