Brikama United moved levelled on 36 points with leaders The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Sunday when they defeated Banjul United 2-0 at the Box Bar Mini Stadium as the first division league one resumes following a week’s Easter break.
However, having played a game less, the Soldiers can reclaim top spot when they take on third place Real de Banjul at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Monday. Real on the other hand will be hoping to inflict the Soldiers’ their first league defeat of the season and close the gap to just within a single point of the leading duo.
Elsewhere, Fortune FC moves closer to securing their objective of top flight football next season when the first time division one campaigners defeated relegation threatened Samger 1-0 at the King George V Mini Stadium in Banjul. Fortune is on 28 points, eleven points ahead of Samger in 13th and a further two away from basement side PSV Wellingara.
Samger, dubbed The Cherno Samba Academy Boys, remains in the danger zone with just 17 points from 21 matches, three points adrift of safety. However, with five matches still to play before the end of the season, they can still maintain their status in the top flight with positive results in those matches.
Meanwhile, Wallidan and Hawks will bring week 21 in the division to a close when the two sides play in a Banjul derby at the King George V Mini Stadium. The match is one of the oldest fixtures in domestic Gambian football.
