Gambia National U-17 Team (Baby Scorpions) are intensifying their preparations ahead of the forth coming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A U-17 tournament schduled to take place in Sierra Leone December 2020.
Ahead of the championship, the Baby Scorpions under the guidance of Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang were engaged in a warm up match to League Div One side Tallinding United at the National Technical Training Centre in Yundum where they put up an impressive record beating the Legue one outfit 3-0 in their quest to put up a strong and formidable side to be reckoned with.
It was play maker Essa Sallah that put up a man of the match performance and opened the scoring in the first half before strikers Abdoulie Baldeh and Kebba Jawara came off the bench in the second half to increase the scoring putting off three goals past the Tallinding based outfit and sealing the scoreline for the National side.
Tallinding nonetheless created a few chances but found the Baby Scorpions been fortified at the back throughout.
Speaking after the game Coach Abdoulie Bojang expressed satisfaction on the performance of the team and said his side were tactically discipline. “I’m impressed with the performance because what I was focusing on is tactically what we train in terms of our transition from defense to attack. I know there is still rooms to improve but we were well organized”. He said the team didn’t concede any goal and ended up scoring 3 goals which according to him is “definitely a good start for the team”.
He added that the new additions to the team didn’t disappoint him. “We selected some new players that we injected in the second half and try to see whether they can cope with the ones we have and definitely it worked very well”.
The Junior tournament is strictly an age based category and as such each player will undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Test to ascertain that their ages are within the period of 17 years or below..
“The team will play at least two games very week to see all the boys in real game situation”. Two warm up matches are in the pipeline before the team’s eventual travel to Sierra Leone where the tournament would kick off from the 11th to 20th December 2020.
