A delegation from the GFF comprising of our President Lamin Kaba Bajo and General Secretary Lamin M. Jassey are currently attending the WAFU Zone A General Assembly in Cape Verde.

Discussions at the event were centered around the review of the budget, activities of the Zone, and a decision on the host for the U-17 Championship.
Speaking to us from the event, General Secretary Jassey stated that the budget, activity report and the financial statements have all been approved by the General Assembly.

He further highlighted that the Assembly has also taken some very key decisions such as the existing WAFU A Secretariat in Banjul. He noted that the Secretariat will remain in The Gambia. However, the office would require refurbishment. Meanwhile, the Director will be hosted at the FIFA Office in Dakar, Senegal, while they work on funds to upgrade The Gambia office soonest.

On the upcoming U-17 Championship, he stated that Sierra Leone said it doesn’t have the MRI machine to do the testing and thus it has forwarded a proposal for the teams to conduct the test in Guinea Conakry, who are equipped with the machine, whereas, the tournament would be played in Freetown.

However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is not convinced with that proposal and would prefer a country equipped with the capacity to host the Championship. Thus, a decision on the matter would be made by the Executive within the next 48hrs to determine which nation will host the Championship and the dates.
