Preparations intensify ahead of The Gambia’s return to the Afcon 2021 Qualifiers at home to Gabon billed for Monday 30th March 2020 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at 16:30hrs. Following the shift of dates for the resumption of the Qualifiers from August to March 2020 as announced by CAF, the Gambia Football Federation has no sooner reconvened its Events Management Committee (EMC) under whose purview the game will be organized to swiftly put up the essential logistics for the successful conduct of Match Day Four of the Scorpions home game to Gabon’s Panthers.
Speaking to the Federation medium, EMC Chairman William Abraham has highlighted the importance of the home describing it as “our most important game of the Qualifiers”. He said the Committee is tasked by the GFF Executive to put up all logistics necessary for the hosting of the game at the Independence Stadium and as such ” we are more prepared than ever with the possibilities that lies ahead of this game. So, we urge fans to buy their tickets immediately we start selling because the home game will fall on a Monday (working day) and we want to avoid selling the tickets at the gate on the Match day” he said.

Willy further noted that the Committee is also aware of the Coronavirus (Covid 19) which he described as a global pandemic. “We will put in place mechanisms for everyone’s safety even though there is no case confirmed yet in the country. This is a concern for the GFF and the country as a whole and it is our collective responsibility to approach it with seriousness”. He however implored on the fans and the general public coming to the stadium to respect and adhere to the sanitation guidelines for the benefit of everyone.
Commenting on the state of preparedness at the level of security, the Real De Banjul President posited that security is a major prerequisite to any CAF sanctioned match and as such the Gambia is not an exception. “We have held series of meetings with the GFF Security Committee regarding this aspect and i can assure everyone of a complete safe and secured atmosphere”.
He further urged fans to be law abiding stressing that all should avoid coming to the stadium with bags, bottles and foreign materials which are not in line with International Standards of game organization in order to avoid fines and/or suspension. He Commended fans who usually go to the stadium at early hours and shared their concerns in water and food. While calling for calm and patriotism, the EMC Chairman called on all and sundry to wear in their national colors and drum up support for the gallant scorpions. He emphasized that the tickets will only be made enough for capacity of the stadium.

The Scorpions will resume Qualifiers of the Afcon 2021 with the first leg away to Gabon on Thursday 26th March 2020 at the Stade De Renovation in Franceville at 20:00hrs (7pm Gambia) with return to Banjul on Monday 30th March 2020 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at 16:30pm.
