Wagadu FC And Jarra West Squares Off For Regional 2nd Div Final

The finalists of the GFF Regional 2nd Division are been decided after the Semi finals were staged on Monday 7th October, 2019 at the Soma Mini Stadium in the Lower River Region.
URR Champions Wagadu FC will face off their counterparts Jarra West from the LRR after both sides knocked out Jambarr of Mayamba from the NBR and Niani FC from the CRR.

The Monday kick off at 3pm for the first semi final was between Wagadu FC and Jambarr in a match to decide who goes to the finale to prepare for National League Div Two. Wagadu opened their scoring in the opening minutes of the kick off four minutes from time through an own goal deflected by Jambarr defender Mache Senghore. As if matters got worse for the waterside boys, Jambarr went much down and conceded another through Wagadu’s Musa Njie 27 minutes been the only goal for the URR Striker
Upon second half resumption, both sides struggled to make up their chances but Jambarr’s efforts continue to worsen when their defender was sent out but Wagadu remained resolute but maintain their two nil lead to end the day as winners of the first semi final.
Speaking to Wagadu FC President Muhammadu Ceesay, he expressed delight in the performance of his team to reach this stage. “A lot of collective work was done for us to reach here. We have an attacking mentality that really helped us and our players are always at camp to train together” he said. Ceesay said they are optimistic of an appearance in the National second division league.
The second semi final on the day was between hosts Jarra West and Niani FC of CRR. This was a more difficult contest as both teams experienced goal droughts in the first half. Jarra West’s Lamin Sanneh (Raul) broke the deadlock for LRR when Niani FC could not capitalize on their clear cut chances. Raul’s goal was the only that made the difference and guaranteed them to the finals as nothing significant at goal were recorded at second half.
Jarra West Asst Coach Musa Faye described the moment as a great opportunity. ” It’s been a long season and we are happy to reach the final”. He said their team is a Community Club that represents the entire LRR and thus it’s a great opportunity for the region to have been given the support to the team. Faye expressed confidence in the team “but we are aware of our opponents. And i also want to thank the GFF for this decentralization and also recognizing us regions”.
GFF Competitions Director Baboucarr Job said the Regional Qualifiers to the National Second Div is the brain child of the GFF as part of the Calendar and all encapsulated in the decentralization strategy. He said the calibre of teams that participated in the two semi finals indicates that talents are abound in the regions and GFF will continue to exploit on the talents seen around. ” I am so impressed with the teams because I’ve seen almost all of them are young and full of potentials. I think the GFF must be congratulated for giving all the necessary support and logistics ( 4 semi finalists, accommodation and feeding) for the success of this event”.
The mega final will be played on Wednesday 9th October at 16:00hrs where the winner will be promoted to National League Div Two.
The Semi Finals are been also been attended by GFF General Secretary Lamin M Jassey and staff of the GFF Competitions Department.
