Gambia National Team Coach Tom Sainfiet has released Scorpions squad list for the Afcon Group D match away to Algeria on March 22nd in Blida. The Saint has recalled Omar Colley to lead the lads although a few notable names are absent due to injuries and suspension.

The 20-man squad will feature in new entrant Kalipha Manneh from Catania in Spain who plays at the right wing and Nuha Marong Krubally a striker with Athletico Baleares in Spain while local exploit Gamtel’s Ngine Faye will fight for a place in the defense with Futty Danso.

“This is the most important game in our Qualifiers because three teams are battling for a spot and it is for us to beat Algeria and hope that Togo and Benin draw in their game,” Tom expressed. He said The Gambia can boost of its senior national team for the first time in its history that the Scorpions could qualify at the final match day. “It will be full of tension, hope and expectation but we will be focused and determined to go all out and do what is expected.”

He said the team is with the ambition of going all out to win “although we don’t have it all in our hands but we will do everything possible for us.”

Explaining his selection process, Tom disclosed that some players aren’t available due to reasons stated by them. “It is comparatively a new squad because some players are not available for this game.” He pointed out Assan Ceesay and Lamin Jallow as having been suspended due to two yellow cards while Mustapha Carayol, Moussa Njie, Yusupha Bobb and Pa Modou Jagne are all out due to injury. He said both Ali Sowe and Sulayman Marreh opted to be excuse due to private reasons.

The invited players are expected in Banjul on Monday March 18th and will bound for Cassablanca for a short training camp before jetting into Algeria on Thursday evening.
