Third Division Gathers Pace in URR

The Upper River Regional Football Association third division league continues to gather pace with twelve teams competing, all with the aim of securing a potential spot in the second division of the national football league organised by the umbrella body of Gambian football, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF).

Due to the geographical nature of the region, the 12 teams are divided into four groups of three teams each, with the two highest ranked teams at the end of the group stages securing a place in the knockout stages of the competition, where eight teams would compete.

In Group A, Sabi led the way with three points from one game following a thumping 3-1 hammering of Kulari, who had earlier in the group drew 1-1 with Kutehjongbulu. Kulari is at the base of the group with a solitary point and they would have to depend on Sabi to beat Kutehjongbulu by more than a two goal margin if they are to finish amongst the top two.

In Group B, T-Junction is in pole position with three points from a solitary game following a 3-0 thrashing of Bakadaji. That result thus far remains the biggest winning margin in the league. Bakadaji have completed the quota of their group stage matches after losing 1-0 to Wagadugou in their second match and the latter would now play the leaders to determine who finishes top of the group.

In Group C, Songkunda is top with three points following a 2-1 defeat of Suduwol in their only game so far. Suduwol is second, also on three points but they have played a game more and trailed by goal difference. Suduwol defeated Passamas 1-0 and the former will now play the leaders for a place in the next round.

Finally in Group D, Nyakoi leads the way with three points following a 1-0 defeat of Misera. Misera is at the base of the table with a solitary point following a goalless stalemate with Sutukoba in week one. The top two would now contest for the right to determine who would qualify from that group to the knockout rounds.
