Eight teams are participating in the league at the end of the campaign and the regional championship will represent the Central River Region in the national triangular championship to determine the teams that would gain promotion to the national second division league.

It would be recalled that for the first time ever in the history of the country, the domestic league has taken a national character with teams in the provincial Gambia participating in the competitions with B4U Kiang West and 2nd Infantry Battalion playing in the second tier having won the Lower River and North Bank regional leagues respectively last season.

The two teams play their home fixtures at The Gambia Football Federation sponsored artificial football turf in Jarra Soma in the Lower River Region. The participating teams in fixtures involving the aforesaid teams have their transportation costs to and from Soma incurred by the GFF.
