Stakeholders have expressed their delight in the election of Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo as the new President of the West African Football Union (WAFU).

Mr. Bajo became the first Gambian ever to be elected as WAFU President, replacing Guinean Antonio Souare. Mr. Bajo, 57, was elected unopposed, at the 44th General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Arusha, Tanzania, a prove of his growing influence and trust amongst his fellow continental football administrators.

By the virtue of his election as a regional President, Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo now automatically becomes an Executive Committee Member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and today took part in his first meeting as an ExCO Member.

One of the many notable reactions to this gratifying news is the Ministry of Youth & Sports. The Ministry, on its official Facebook page, said it is their conviction that Mr Bajo’s election to head the sub-regional body will not only usher progress in the region but will be beneficial to the Gambia’s football development.
