The stakes are high in the West Coast Region ahead of their inter-lower basic schools grassroots football finals slated for the weekend. After a trailblazer by Banjul during the course of the week, the former would draw the curtain down on their championship ahead of the national inter-schools competition sponsored by The Gambia Football Federation (GFF).
The finals would be played between Brikama and Kembujeh in both the girls and boys categories where the winner would be decorated with a glittering trophy.
The two sides secured their places in the finals following successful semifinal wins this week. Kembujeh defeated Jeddah 2-0 in the girls’ category to book a date with Brikama, who had earlier eliminated Jeddah in the boys’ category as well. Kembujeh got off the better from Anne Marie River Basic Cycle 4-3 in a post-match penalty shootout in the other semis.
The final is expected to be attended by dignitaries from the community and other stakeholders.
