The Gambia National Team (Scorpions) will fly from their various destinations across Europe, Asia and Africa to converge at Istanbul, Turkey en route to Djibouti. This is part of the National Team’s logistical arrangements ahead of its first leg Afcon preliminary 2021 Qualifier away to Djibouti scheduled for 9th October.

This development arranged by the GFF is necessitated by the need to have an uninterrupted air travel for the Scorpions in order to avoid transits which could be inconvenient and hence the need to swiftly arranged for the Istanbul convergence.

This was further confirmed by Team Manager Ousman Drammeh following the release of Scorpions provisional squad on Tuesday afternoon. “This is for ease of traveling to Djibouti. We will have the players jetted into Istanbul as the central point and for the fact that there is direct flight from Istanbul to Djibouti would help the team so well”, he said. Drammeh further noted that flying out from Turkey is to avoid stop overs at the end of which could be frustrating for players during the recovery period.

Head Coach Tom Sainfiet has also confirmed that players would be available by Monday night 7th October to fly together with officials and expected to arrive in Djibouti on Tuesday 8th October.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday 9th October, 2019 at Djibouti City with the return leg in the Gambia on Sunday 13th October, 2019 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
