The Gambia National Team ( Scorpions ) regrouped back on Friday March 23rd at a friendly international match with familiar opponents Wild Beasts of the Central African Republic ( CAR ) in a one all stalemate at the Independence Stadium in Bakau in front of an impressive crowd of onlookers.

The Scorpions opened up play with decent display of skills and beautiful interchange of passes at the delight of the home crowd although CAR were cautious at the back with former Coach Raoul Savoy weary of Gambia’s exploits and thus could settled for a one all stalemate.

Gambia opened their goal from a spot kick when Assan Ceesay stepped up to convert the penalty when Scorpions striker Lamin Jallow was bundled in the area at the later part of the second period after a barren first half of play.

The Wild Beasts came from behind to equal the scoring after clearing a congested Gambia defence for Matouta Loiuse to neatly touch before Youga Amos headed it right into the net thus earning CAR a moment to celebrate.

The major highlight of the friendly was the attendance of Gambia’s first lady Her Excellency Madam Fatou Bah Barrow who cheered the Scorpions from start to finish at the VIP Dais accompanied by a handful of cabinet ministers.

The Gambia uses the friendly for its technical preparation ahead of the resumption of Qualifiers for the AfCON 2019 edition in Cameroon. It is the second time in a year that the Gambia takes on the CAR the last rime been in March 2017 in Rabat, Morocco where the Scorpions prevail over the Wild Beasts 2-0 with goals from Modou Barrow and Mustapha Carayol.
