The Gambia Scientist Association yesterday presented to the President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo their latest invention of flags for assistant referees in the form of a handing over ceremony held at the Football Hotel in Old Yundum.

According to the Association, they created the flag to ease communication between the referee and his two assistants. He explained how the flag functions, stating that when something happens on the field of play, all the linesmen needs to do is to press the button on the flag and the drive on the referee’s arm would vibrate then the referee would know that something is wrong.

Suwaibou Jammeh the President of the Association said following the display of the material on social media, he received a telephone call from the GFF enquiring about it. He added that it is against this backdrop of the said call that his Association felt obliged and motivated to present the invention to the leadership of the Federation. Mr. Jammeh added that they were well received by the Executive Committee of the GFF and they as youth want to contribute positively to the economic development of The Gambia.

Also speaking at the gathering, Mr. Sang Ndong, the Technical Director of the GFF said the materials will be very useful. He thanked the Association for their foresight, while the General Secretary of the Federation, Mr. Lamin M. Jassey said the initiative is monumental. He added that he is very proud that the Gambia Scientist Association choose football to make such invention.

For his part, the President of the GFF, Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo stressed that anything related to football, the Federation will surely go in for it. Bajo said the initiative is commendable and encouraged the GSA to continue the hard work. “Invention is never easy and most of the time those that invent do not enjoy the fruits but they always leave a legacy and I can assure you that all your sacrifices will not be in vein,” Bajo assured.

The GFF boss, who also doubles as the Chairman of The Gambia Football Federation’s Referees Committee, urged the young people of the Association to continue inventing as the samples will be send to CAF and FIFA and reassured them of the GFF’s continues support to the Association.
