The President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, and his Executive Committee regret to announce the sudden death of Mr. Sulayman Kuyateh following a brief illness.

Kuyateh, 39, until his shocking demise, was the Head Coach of second division side Samger Football Club where he is at halfway stage of  three-year contract he signed with them. A multiple Gambian champion, Saul, as he is fondly called, won the domestic league title with his beloved Brikama United and Gamtel and led both sides in the CAF Champions League.

Survived by a wife and a six-month’s old baby, Kuyateh passed away at the Brikama Major Health Centre in the administrative capital of the West Coast Region. He will be laid to rest at the Brikama Cemetery at 2pm on Friday 27th February, 2021, which will be preceded by the recitation of the holy Quran at his former Brikama Mansaring-Su residence.

In a show of respect for the departed soul, the GFF President has announced that all domestic league matches scheduled for tomorrow Friday have been called off. Mr. Bajo described Kuyateh’s demise as a devastating and monumental loss to not only Gambian football but the country at large.

“Sulayman was just a wonderful person full of life. He was modest, respectful and very committed to his profession. This is indeed a very sad moment for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers and with his family at this very difficult time,” he added.
