Following Media Reports that the Gambia National U-20 Team’s engagement at the WAFU U-20 Tournament in Liberia has been exclusively funded by the WAFU Organizing Committee, the Gambia Football Federation wishes to note that such reports are totally false and a figment of the writer’s imagination.
The Football Federation and its National U-20 team pride are intact hence its exceptional and well mannered composure at the WAFU Tournament which has earned the team the much desired accolade for the first time in our Football at U-20 Youth category.
FULL TEXT OF PRESS STATEMENT
“The Gambia Football Federation wishes to clarify that the Gambia’s participation in the recently concluded WAFU A U-20 Tournament held in Liberia was mainly funded by the GFF. From preparations to both camping and traveling allowances paid to players and officials, and air tickets to and from Liberia.
The WAFU A Secretariat promised to refund GFF and other participating countries the cost of the air tickets but this is yet to be fulfilled.
In the same vein, the GFF wishes to inform that the WAFU A Secretariat has paid for the accommodation and feeding of the Gambian delegation plus local transportation during their stay in Liberia.
The GFF wishes to assure all that it will continue to do its utmost best to ensure that our dear country appear in continental and global Football Competitions whenever possible within the limited available resources.
