The Gambia Football Federation ( GFF ) has formally inaugurated the panel appointed to probe into the circumstances that led to the Independence Stadium overcrowding at last Afcon Qualifier match between the Gambia and Algeria played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Presiding over the launch on Friday afternoon at the Football House in Kanifing, GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo first congratulated the members for what he called their deserved appointments. ‘ I wish to first of all congratulate you for your appointments into this very important panel’. Mr Bajo thanked the members for accepting to take the task that he said is a ‘tedious undertaken’. He posited that the acceptance of such a task is largely due to love for country and patriotism. ‘ We want you to review the process, identify the causes and we remedy the situation. We want to have an idea before the next Qualifiers on 16th October’.

Speaking on behalf of the members, Paa Amady Jallow expressed thanks and delight for their appointments and said the confidence and trust reposed in them will be maintained while assuring the Football leadership of their readiness to working together in meeting up their expectations.

This follows Saturday 8th September AFCON Qualifier match involving the Gambia and Algeria played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau where the Independence Stadium was full to capacity and apparently been overcrowded. The Task Force Committee is to look into the causes of the match overcrowding and related issues surrounding the said match. (Gambia vs Algeria).
The Investigation Panel will look into the causes of the crisis and recommend measures to avert a recurrence.

The event was also attended by GFF 3rd Vice President Lang tombong Tamba, Executive Committee members Sainabou Cham, Sadibou Kamaso, Pa Yusu Samba, General Secretary Lamin M Jassey and Human Resources Manager Baboucarr Camara.
