The National Coordinating Committee (NCC) of the Road to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cameroon, 2021, on Wednesday held its first media briefing at the Independence Stadium Board Room in Bakau.

The Committee is tasked with raising D120 Million as 785% of the expenditure to facilitate the preparation for Gambia’s maiden participation at the continental showpiece event.

Speaking at the briefing, Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo the President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and vice chairman of the Committee called on the football family and all Gambians to contribute to the course.  “I’m calling on every Gambian at home and those abroad to come on board and contribute. We are looking for 120 Million and all we have so far as pledged is half a million by the President,” he appealed.

“We are scheduled for a training camp in Morocco next month. There will be another in November before we have pre-tournament matches so the team is scheduled to have a good preparation if all goes according to plan.”

Head of Media and Publicity sub-committee Mr. Musa Sise also appealed to the public to come forward and patronise the Scorpions. He catalogued a series of activities lined up to raise the required funds. “We called this press conference to update the public on what is done, what needs to be done and how it’s going to be done. We already started negotiations with the public and private sector and some are at an advance stage. But we can’t do this alone; we need everyone, we will create the platforms for people to contribute,” Sise asserted.

Sise, who is also the President of the Sports Journalist Association of The Gambia (SJAG), urged the media to use their platforms in making sure that the messages are filtered down to the public. He said such media briefings would be held every fortnight or so to update the public of their activities.
