GFF President Secures Deal For National Teams At CAF Meeting

GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo is ending his CAF meeting in Cairo with a series of meetings with counterparts from the across the continental body, all in a bid to extend the Gambia Football Federation’s ardent desire to develop football.

Mr Bajo on Friday had a bilateral meeting with the President of the Egyptian FA, Mr. Hany Abo Rida in Cairo. The two presidents agreed to conclude a co-operation agreement between the Gambia Football Federation and the Egyptian Football Association. At the conclusion of their meeting, Mr Abo Rida has agreed to assist the GFF with a Technical Assistant to assess and help develop our technical department with a view to enhancing our National Teams, both male and female and also youth football.

A major breakthrough at Mr Bajo’s request is the acceptance of the Egypt FA to host Gambia national teams during training camps in Egypt. Both Mr Bajo and his Egyptian colleague Abo Rida have agreed in principle to effect this agreement as soon as possible.

Mr Bajo will continue his ambassadorial services and is expected to meet his Moroccan counterpart on Monday 16th October for similar talks.

Hany Abo Rida is the President of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and sits on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee and has been a FIFA council member since 2009. He is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and influential figures in African football. It can be recalled recently that the Egyptian national team, the Pharaohs, secured their first FIFA World Cup qualification berth since 1990, securing a 2-1 win over Congo-Brazzaville courtesy of a last-minute penalty from superstar Mohamed Salah.
