The Kanifing regional third division league gets underway with 20 teams all vying for the one spot that will ensure them represent the region in the national triangular for promotion to the second division.

The 20 teams are divided into two groups of 10 teams each, with the top four teams from each group will qualify to the next round, which will take the form of a knockout competition, then the semifinals and the final to determine the regional champion.

After three match days in Group A, Blue Star FC is top with seven points following two wins and a draw. Kanifing East FC is two further points behind them in second while LK Boys and Newtown are both on four points. Munduk FC and Flamemins FC are yet to collect a point, and while the latter played three and lost all, the former is yet to get their season underway.

In Group B, Union United lead the way with maximum six points from two matches followed by Bakau Komani FC and Masita FC on four points each. Manjai United and Samger B FC are currently in the relegation zone, pointless after two matches.

Week three fixtures continue today when Serrekunda East hosts BK West United at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, with Bakau United entertaining Orange Stars FC at Manjai and Bakau Komani locking horns with Pall Sall Villa FC at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

On Thursday, Masita FC entertains Samger B at Serrekunda West, with Football Heroes taking on Prison FC at Manjai and Union United will look to extend their winning run when they take on early struggles Manjai United.
