As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is today recognising the magnanimous efforts of women in the respective spectrums of football.

The GFF attaches serious importance to women’s football and encourages its empowerment, participation and self-sustenance. The President of the GFF Mr. Lamin Kabba Bajo expressed his delight to www.gambiaff.org in the recent accomplishments of women football. “We’ve seen over the years how our women are making headlines in their respective domains such as the administrators, referees, coaches, and players,” he said.

He assured his female colleagues of his continues support in ensuring that the gap between them and their male counterparts is bridged within the shortest possible time. This, he said, is manifested by the steady and consistent achievements of our various categories of women’s National Teams, which resulted to the Senior Team included in the FIFA world rankings for the first time.

Ms. Sainabou Cham, President of Women’s Football Association and GFF Executive Committee Member, recognised the significant strides made by women over the years. She acknowledged the immense improvement in the game, noting that more women are now seen expressing their talents in the game openly and at their free will overcoming the cultural discrimination of male dominance in the game.  While recognising the support of the GFF, she seized the opportunity to call on the public to continue supporting and believing in women football.

Sainey Sissohore M’Boge the Senior Women’s Football Coordinator at the GFF highlighted the significant role women play in building a better society despite their challenges. While thanking the GFF boss for the conducive environment, Mrs. M’Boge encouraged women to keep working hard, be committed, resilient and continue showing passion and love for the game despite the challenges.

“Let’s define ourselves in promoting a woman’s self-worth and our ability to do things based on our own choices, as well as our rights to influence social change for the future generation. No matter how difficult it is, we keep believing and never give up”, she noted.
