The much awaited final of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) sponsored Lower Basic (Primary) Schools Football Championships is set for Thursday 20th June, 2019 at Independence Stadium in Bakau kicking off at 9am.

The tournament finals is set to bring together regional champions in both boys and girls categories from Banjul, Kanifing Municipality and West Coast Region to compete in their various categories.

Banjul will be represented by St Joseph’s and in the girls and boys categories respectively while KM will bring on Old Jeshwang in both categories and West Coast Region to be represented by Brikama girls and Kembujeh boys respectively.

Speaking early in an interview with the GFF in house medium, the Federation’s Grassroots and Youth Football Coordinator Mr. Ebrima Nyassi said the finals are organised by the GFF to bring to an end the a pilot phase inter-school football tournament organised in different regions sponsored by Football House. “The finals will be in a round robin format and the winner of each category will be crowned as champion of that said category,” Mr. Nyassi told the Federation’s official website, www.gambiaff.org.

The tournament was a fulfilment of the GFF and Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education’s agreement as contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties signed to work together for the growth and development of grassroots football, especially at the level of primary schools.
