GFF League Division One side GAMTEL FC have confirmed to have withdrawn their participation at the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.

The announcement was made formal in a letter written to the Gambia Football Federation stating financial constraint as the major cause of the club’s withdrawal. The GFF has further informed CAF about the development and consequently the continental body has eventually announced that TAS De Cassablanca will advance to the next stage of the Confederation Cup Preliminary Rounds.

The telecom giants were held one nil by visitors TAS De Cassablanca in the first leg of the preliminary Qualifiers at the Independence Stadium in Bakau over the weekend.

The GFF has committed to its  its long time promise and disbursed D250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dalasis) as well as Five Days of accommodation to Gamtel FC at the Football Hotel in Yundum in preparation for their home and first leg of the preliminaries and has further paid for the indemnities of the Match Officials and Air Tickets.

Gamtel won two league titles, several FF Cup and Super Cups since gaining promotion to the country’s Premier league decades ago. They have also represented The Gambia in the CAF champions’ league and confederations Cup Qualifiers several times but were eliminated in the preliminaries.
