Gambia U-17 Arrives in Senegal Ahead for WAFU Cup

The Baby Scorpions last night arrived in Senegal ahead of the West African Football Union (WAFU) A tournament. The team is based at the Diambar Sports Complex in Mbour and will begin its campaign with a match against the hosts at the Stade Lat Dior on Friday 5th February at 2pm.

The delegation headed by GFF’s First Vice President Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh left Banjul Wednesday afternoon and arrived at the early hours of Thursday morning. The delegation upon arrival were ushered to their hotel rooms before they proceeded to have dinner and then off to bed.

Lai Bojang and his charges held their first training session this afternoon, which also served as a free up session ahead of tomorrow’s opener against the hosts. They will later proceed to do the mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test in Dakar scheduled for 6pm.

The team, consisting of 24 playing staff, will later face Mauritania in their second and final group match of the competition on Sunday at 5pm. The top two ranked sides from each group will qualify for the semifinals of the six-nation championship with the winner of the competition representing the region at the CAF African U-17 Cup of Nations in Morocco in September this year.
