Officials of the Gambia Football Federation headed by President Lamin Kabba Bajo are winding up the first ever CAF Women’s Football Symposium in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

The two-day event attracts stakeholders from football and different walks of life all under the theme ‘raising our game’ and is expected to chart a new course for the development women’s football on the continent.

The historic seminar according to CAF is also meant to define the future of the women’s game as various stakeholders discuss, exchange ideas and knowledge towards raising the standard of the beautiful game.

Each Member Association is represented by three delegates made up of president, General Secretary and Head of Women’s Football, to discuss diverse topics expected to put women’s football in Africa on the global map.

Apart from the current CAF structures, there are also players, both former and current; referees, coaches, media, as well as experts from FIFA and other Confederations for the historic event.

The General Secretary of FIFA Fatma Samoura is among the guests hosted by the CAF President Ahmed Ahmed flanked by his able General Secretary Amr Fahmy.

At the historic opening of the seminar on Monday March 5th in the presence of His Majesty the King of Morocco Muhammed VI, the CAF President thanked and congratulated Morocco for the support and financial assistance granted to CAF during the past year. According to Ahmed, the objective of the symposium is a ‘ new take off’ premise on the successes and development of women’s football on the continent.

Earlier on Sunday, participants were hosted to a dinner where the Gambian officials met with a number of their counterparts at the fringes of the night event to discuss matters of common interest. GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo with General Secretary Lamin M Jassey were both distinguished among their colleagues and thus made bilateral agreements between the Gambia and other potential partners.

Participants at the CAF symposium were split into various working groups to brainstorm on specialize topics. The resolutions will be presented to the CAF Executive Committee for review and implementation.

The topics for the working groups are;
1. How to expand the practice of Women’s Football
2. Developing the technical formation of the trainers, referees & instructor
3. Means of development of sponsorship for Women’s football
4. Competitions: Realities and Perspective
5. Governance concept in women’s football
6. Role of women’s football in gender promotion and socialization
7. Place of Media & Communication in dynamizing women’s football

The Gambia is represented at the Seminar by President Lamin Kaba Bajo, General Secretary Lamin M Jassey and Executive member and Chairperson Women’s Football Committee Ms Sainabou Cham.
