Following the receipt of an invitation from Senegal for two friendly international matches involving the two countries’ National Female Teams, the GFF has accepted the offer and no sooner prepared its National Women’s Scorpions for the friendly internationals away to their counterparts slated for Wednesday 18th and Saturday 21st December, 2019 respectively.
The friendlies are part of the two countries’ technical preparation ahead of the maiden edition of the Total CAF Women’s Cup of Nations where the Gambia is been pitted with Guinea Bissau for the preliminary ties while Senegal takes on Liberia later in 2020.
The Gambia earlier has been on regular training preparing for the WAFU Zone A Women’s tourney in Sierra Leone which has now been called off due to technical difficulties although a new date is yet to be announced.
The first match will be played at the Jules Francois Bocande Centre on Wedesnday 18th December, 2019 at 17:00hrs while the second and final friendly takes place at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies on Saturday 21st December at 16:00hrs. The team under the tutelage of Head Coach Mariama Bom Sowe has lined up a strong and formidable side bound for Senegal on Tuesday 17th December 2019 and are expected to arrive later in the evening and return home on Sunday 22nd December 2019.
The Women Scorpions are boosted by the presence of Rivers Angels and Gambian forwards Penda Bah and Isatou Jallow currently on recess. Also in the ranks is record goal poacher for both club and country Adama Tamba and the marverick attacker Mbassy Darboe of Interior FC.
