The Gambia Women’s Scorpions have made an emphatic comeback following the team’s disappointing start at the WAFU Women’s Tournament in Sierra Leone after beating Guinea Bissau 5-2 at Friday’s Group B Match Day in Makeni.
The Gambia kicked off the rampage just minutes into the game at the Wassum Sports stadium in Makeni, after they conceded an early goal just 4 minutes into the start of the proceedings through Tchaloda Mane but that was short lived as Red Scorpions ace Adama Tamba came to Gambia’s rescue with her equalizer three minutes later on to restore parity and give renewed hopes for the Women’s Scorpions.
The Gambia received a second from Bissau just at the brink of stoppage time before the break through Veva Te and time for Coach Bom Sowe to make amends in order to avoid humiliation against her odds.
Second half resumption saw Adama Tamba returning for another equalizer and her brace for the night in the 48th minute. As if that was the cap off for the twin girl, she nailed another and making her hat trick against Bissau 66 minutes. She would never disappoint and to add more fingers to the counting of scores, Adama Tamba increased her scoring to Four 74 minutes before her fellow Red Scorpions winger and Gambian international athlete Ola Buwara capped off the day with Gambia’s fifth goal of the day. Tamba was then awarded as the Most Outstanding Player with her sterling performance and high scoring goals against Bissau.
Following the team’s heavy opening defeat to Mali, the Gambian girls have now found their winning form after they routed Bissau with a thumping 5-2 scoreline and will now fight out against Liberia on March 2 for the final match day for a place to the Semi Final of the tournament.
