The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has congratulated Lamin Kaba Bajo on his re-election as President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF).
Mr. Bajo won a landslide mandate in the 2022 GFF Executive Committee elections held on Saturday at a local hotel in Kololi. 51 of the 77 voting delegates, representing 66% of the total votes, casted their ballots for the incumbent, drawing wild scenes of celebrations for a man under who’s tenure The Gambia secured a place in a senior AFCON final in Cameroon for the first time.
Mr. Infantino’s congratulatory letter came on the heels of a personal telephone call he placed to Mr. Bajo immediately he was declared President on Saturday. Both him and FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samura spoke to Mr. Bajo on the phone inside on the day.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Bajo today, the Swiss-Italian head of the global football governing body, asked the GFF boss to accept his warmest greetings and sincerest congratulations on his re-election.
“I also want to seize this opportunity to thank you for all your efforts, your work and your important contribution to the development of our sport and the promotion of its values in The Gambia,” Mr. Infantino wrote.
“Sending you and your team my best wishes for this new mandate and every success for all the challenges that lie ahead, I look forward, dear President, to continuing to work with you for the growth and promotion of football in The Gambia in the years to come.”
