Brikama, Kinteh’s Battle Top Spot Following Impressive Weekend Wins

The race for the right to be claimed Gambia’s women second division champions would likely go down the wire after the two main title challengers both secured impressive wins over the weekend. Brikama United and Kinteh’s Football Club are separated by just a mere solitary point as the league enters its final stretch.

It was Kinteh’s that first took to the field on Friday 29th March 2019, when they annihilated Raptim Football Club 4-1 to temporarily move to top of the table with 35 points pending the outcome of Brikama United’s week 16 match against Jam City, who weren’t scheduled to play until Sunday, the last day in the month of March.

However, when the ‘Sateba Girls’ took to the field against their West Coast Region neighbours in a Kombo derby on the 31st March, they didn’t disappoint as they secured an impressive and solid 2-0 win to regain top spot with 36 points.  This represents an impressive statistics for the top two teams because it means from a possible 48 points so far this campaign, they have thus far surrendered only just a mere 12 and 13 points respectively.

Elsewhere in the women’s second division on Saturday, Jeshwang United’s struggles continues as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Future Bi. With the loss, Jeshwang United remains in the relegation zone with 15 points from their 16 matches while Future Bi is on 27 points at fourth place.

Jam City, doomed and dusted before this weekend’s encounter, have already been relegated to the West Coast Regional third division women’s league because mathematically they can no longer secure the amounts of points required to preserve their national league status for another season. From the 16 matches they have so far played in, they could only show off a solitary point for it. During that run, they have scored a meager 2 goals and conceded a staggering 45.
