Bajo, Jammeh Retain CAF Positions, Gen. Tamba Others Appointed

The President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo and First Vice President Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, have both retained their positions as members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) AFCON and cadet competitions respectively.

The composition of the various Sub Committees for the 2019-2021 Cycle was made public recently by CAF including its 21-member Executive Committee headed by President Ahmad Ahmad and Mouad Hajji as its Secretary General.

Mr. Bajo retained his position in the Committee for the organization of the Africa Cup of Nations. Twenty-Seven (27) members made up one of CAF’s most important Sub Committees also headed by Ahmad while Mr. Jammeh is among a 26-member strong committee for CAF’s U-23, U-20 and U-17 competitions.

The GFF is further making numbers into the CAF ranks as Third Vice President Rtd. General Lang Tombong Tamba, Executive Member Maimuna Kanteh and Women’s Football Committee Member Arret Njie-Jah are all appointed as CAF Match Commissioners for the 2019-2021 cycle.

The recent appointments of GFF officials into CAF Committees will add to the few that have a relatively good pedigree with the continental football governing body. Both Mr. Bajo and Jammeh have been on the CAF raider for the flagship and junior championships over the previous period. Mr. Bajo was previously a member of the U-20 Organizing Committee where he attended the CAF U-20 Championship in Zambia 2017 before been elevated to the flagship tournament as a member. He took part in the Total AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt and is been credited for his sterling performances as match commissioner during the period.

As a member of the U-17 and U-20 Organizing Committee, Mr. Jammeh also made great performances at the Total CAF U-20 tournament in Niger before recently been appointed to the U-23 tournament in Egypt where he headed Group B in Alexandra as the match commissioner.

The newly appointed trio will begin their assignments at the ongoing CAF Inter Club competition across the continent where they are also expected to perform well.
