Gambia women’s U-20 Coach Foday Bah has trimmed his provisional squad by announcing a 26-woman list that will continue training ahead of this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Burkina Faso.

Bah has invited 35 players but now nine has been chopped off that list with the remainder training at the home of Gambian football, the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum. The latest list is a mixture of both first and second division players who were also involved in a test match with Abuko United and were on the winning side of a nine-goal thriller.

Bah promised that his team will play a minimum of a test match each week ahead of their first leg encounter with the Burkinabe on September 24. “We will play another test game with the Senior National Team on Thursday 2nd September, 2021 to continue our plans in the preparation,” he added.

Further speaking to the GFF Media, Bah said he is excited about a competitive test match with the Queen Scorpions. “The experience of the Senior National Team will add value to my side irrespective of the scores. The young players are working very hard to adapt to the style of play because our system of play is to possess the ball, find space and moving forward to score as many goals as we can bearing in mind the solidity of our defense line also. You don’t win games if you don’t score goals,” he noted.

After the first leg in Banjul, the two sides will square off for the second and deciding leg in Ouagadougou on 8th October, 2021.
