Waa Banjul Wins to Close Gap on Leaders

Waa Banjul on Tuesday evening closed the gap on second division leaders, Sporting Real, back to only one point following their 5-1 thrashing of relegation threatened Lions of Banjul in a derby game played at the King George V Mini Stadium in Banjul.

Waa Banjul is now on 54 points after 26 matches with the leaders are on 55 and with just four matches remaining before the end of the season, the leading duo are hot favourites to secure promotion to the top flight but it remains to be seen who amongst them would be crowned league champions.

Meanwhile, Lions of Banjul are edging ever closer to relegation as they are seven points adrift of safety with just 17 points collected in 26 matches. They now have four matches to save their season and any slip up could confirm their doom even before the season closes.

In the other game of Tuesday evening, Immigration FC visited Jarra Soma Mini Stadium in the Lower River Region where they held hosts 2nd Infantry Battalion to a 2-2 draw. The stalemate sends Immigration to seventh on 36 points while 2nd Infantry remains 13th with 26 points as they look to survive the drop.

Elsewhere, fourth place Bombada were also held to a 1-1 draw by seventh place Latrikunda United. The former has 43 points while the latter is on 35 points.
