Unearthing New Stars: GFF’s National Talent Search Underway in Soma

In its bid to unearth new stars from the grassroots level and mold them to become future national stars, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Saturday 13th July, 2019, began a two-day talent search in regional Gambia for the regions of Lower, Upper, Central River and North Bank. The event is bringing together boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 15.

Addressing participants at the Soma Mini Stadium on the sidelines of the programme, former Gambia international Bai Malleh Wadda, who was invited as an observer at the event said it’s time for a change in how The Gambia produces a better team for international engagements.

“This is the right process to do such and you are the right targets to achieve such goals,” Bais, as he is fondly called, said. Further encouraging the participants about the importance of sports, multisport discipline in particular, Mr. Malleh, who played football, basketball, and volleyball at the same time, urged them to take the programme seriously. “I now want to help you young talents to achieve your dreams,” he affirmed.

The Technical Director of the GFF, Sang John Ndong used the occasion to test the knowledge of the kids with few questions to find out their understanding of Football House and its mandate. To the delegation’s surprise, the brilliant and aspiring footballers have not only proven to be good in the sports, but have also taken their education seriously. All the quizzes were answered correctly. They replied that the GFF is mandated to help develop and promote football in the country.
