U-20 Arrives for Morocco Camp; 2 Members Test Positive for Covid19

The Gambia National U-20 Team has arrived in Morocco this morning for a training camp. The team left Banjul for the North African country in the early hours of Wednesday morning where they will be engaged in some test matches before proceeding to the U-20 African Cup of Nations finals beginning in Mauritania on February 14.

The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, the President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, his First Vice President, Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh and the General Secretary Mr. Lamin M. Jassey, bade farewell to the team at their camp at the National Technical Training Center (NTTC), hosting the Football Hotel in Yundum.

The high authorities wished the team well and encouraged them to be worthy ambassadors of the country and to fly the Gambian flag high, given to them by His Excellency the President, Mr. Adama Barrow.

Before their departure, the whole delegation underwent the mandatory Corona virus test as part of the travel protocols and unfortunately, the Head Coach Mr. Matarr Alieu M’Boge and the Media Officer Mr. Amadou O. Bah returned positive Covid19 test results. The rest of the delegation all tested negative.

As a consequence of their positive Covid19 test, the duo couldn’t travel with the team and are currently isolating awaiting further tests. Once they tested negative, both Mr. M’Boge and Mr. Bah will rejoin the team.

In the absence of the Head Coach, his assistants Foday Bah and Yahya Manneh will lead the training sessions in Morocco.

We wish the duo a quick recovery to avail them the opportunity to rejoin their teammates in the soonest possible time.
