Gambia Football Federation has given the green light to National U-17 Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang ( Lie ) to be at liberty and screen as much as possible out of a provisional Sixty two local players scouted from the domestic League a possible thirty players ready to wear Gambia’s national colors at the forth coming WAFU Zone A tournament in September to be hosted in Dakar and Mbour, Senegal.
The screening exercise kicked off on Monday July 9th at the National Technical Training Center in Yundum with the first thirty one players that will again return for more recruitment on Tuesday July 10th before the second batch of invited players would also be called up on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th July. ‘ This is to give each of the players maximum chance to proof their worth while we also watch them closely’, Lie Bojang.
The final selection would be for next week when the required number of thirty players would be grouped. ‘ Its a national team and all players would be invited to come on board based on their input. They will represent the country and its proper that we screen well to have a very good final selection’.
The screening process comes at the backdrop of Gambia’s intent to participate in the forth coming WAFU Zone A Finals in Senegal slated for September which according to CAF will be the basis for qualifiers to the Total Africa U-17 Tournament, Tanzania 2019. Thus the winners in the Zonal tournament will join their counterparts across Africa in another of CAF’s youth Football fiesta.
