The domestic first division league title is wide open after leaders The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) was forced to a goalless stalemate by Real de Banjul in a match played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Monday. Brikama United’s win, 24 hours earlier, saw them go joint top of the 14-team table with 36 points from 21 matches.
However, GAF, who still led by the virtue of their superior goal difference had the chance to restore their three-point cushion having played a game less to put further light between them and third place Real de Banjul but the draw only sees them just a solitary point ahead of second place with five matches still to play. Real is third with three points further behind and despite the disappointment of a draw, they still maintain a realistic chance of winning silverware at the end of the season.
Elsewhere on Monday, record champions Wallidan FC thrashed Hawks 3-0 at the King George V Mini Stadium in Banjul to move to 4th place with 31 points, a point more than their opponents Hawks who collected 30 points. The defeat saw Hawks’ impressive run came to an end against their city rivals.
Meanwhile, Bakau Katchikally Milan will play Tallinding United in the final game of week twenty-one fixtures at the Independence Stadium.
