At the end of the Inter Lower Basic Schools tournament, capital city Banjul has blazed the trail bringing the curtains of its grassroots football to a close at the Banjul Mini Stadium on Monday 15th April, 2019. St Joseph’s Basic Cycle Girls and Albion Lower Basic School Boys were crown champions of the tournament solely sponsored by the Gambia Football Federation after securing victories over Muhammedan and Campama Lower Basic Schools respectively.
The opening Fixtures featured the Girls final as favorites St Joseph’s took on a resuscitated Muhammad Lower Basic School side in the morning. St Joseph’s looked well on course for another tittle when Haddy Cham gave them the lead in the 12 minutes of the opener. Muhammedan rallies back in sarch for an equalizer and it took them just 5 minutes to found it as Haddy Njie scores from a well converted kick after a St Joseph’s defender handled the ball in the box. The game ended 1-1 and it was penalty shootouts that separated the two. St Joseph’s made it five in a row and now have acclaimed superiority over Muhammedan beaten them 2-1 on post match penalties.
Elsewhere Albion Lower Basic School showed up their powress in the finals as they muggled Campama Lower Basic School 3-1 to click the trophy in a very entertaining final. Albion openes the scoring early in the 6 minutes from the most promising player of the tournament Cherno Basiru Jallow, who scored a very stylish goal as he chip the ball over the rushing Campama goalie. Campama continue to dominate possession and creating chances but defended well and went to break conceding only a goal.
Campama came from the locker room with renew vigor and determination in search of an equalizer but it was Albion who got the second goal of the match through talismanic Buba Sonko. Tournament leading goalscorer Musa Jarra scored his 10 goal of the tournament from a well taken free kick in the 11 minutes of the second half but the goal prove to be a consolation for Campama Lower Basic School as Buba Sonko got a brace for Albion’s third in 21 minutes to put the game to bed and capped up an impressive display from Albion the boys from Albion.
It ended Albion 3-1 Campama. 
As winners both St Joseph’s and Albion were given medals, trophies and balls while Runners Up Muhammedan and Campama were awarded balls and trophies as consolation prices. There were prices for outstanding performace during the tournament:
In the girls category Oumie Sonko got the leading goal scorer with 9 goals and also scoped the most promising player’s awards. Mariama Touray of Albion was the most promising defender and the best goalkeeper went to Neneh Tamba of Albion.
Meanwhile in the boys category Musa Jarra of Campama took the leading goal scorers award, the most promising players went to Cherno Basiru Jallow of Albion, most promising goalkeeper and defender award went to Alasan Bobb of Albion and Muhammed Jarra of Wesley Lower Basic School.
The final was attended by GfF Executive Committee members, staff of the Secretariat, school.children and a cross section of Banjul.
