Gambia Scorpions have begun their training at the 11th November Stadium training fields in Luanda ahead of the return fixture for the World Cup 2022 preliminary Qualifying series to Angola’s Palancas Negras scheduled for Tuesday 10th September at 4pm local time.
After a day’s travel reaching to Luanda via Cassablanca on Saturday September 7, the Gambian team and delegation had recovered well from travel fatigue and going into the Tuesday return fixture is the main preoccupation for Coach Tom Sainfiet and his charges.
After Sunday’s training at the 11th November Stadium ( training fields ), the “Saint” described the session as recovery after coming from a tough game and long hours of travel. “We have a recovery session for the boys and the atmosphere is good for all of us. We dont want to push too much because we have one or two players with a knock and need to recover well”, he said.
He said everyone is confident at camp despite the defeat in Banjul at the first leg. “We dominated Angola and created chances to score but the opportunities were wasted”. Commenting on his approach towards the game on Tuesday, the “Saint” emphasized that the team will take every opportunity to score and increase their scoring in the first half and eventually a win.
He said the strength of the team is admired by all Gambians and has the belief that a win over Angola is possible despite the narrow defeat to the Palancas Negras. “We have a good team which has quality and offensive way of playing. So victory for us here is very important”, he said.
