The domestic first division league season returns after a short Eid ul-Fitr break as thousands again thronged the Independence Stadium to welcome the return of football under the floodlights at Bakau’s Independence Stadium.
The first match of the day saw Marimoo puts the breaks on Elite United’s recent hot streak, playing to a 1-1 draw. With the draw, Elite remains in fifth on the 14-team table with 23 points while Marimoo is just second from bottom with 14 points.
In the big match of the night, 10-man Real de Banjul secured their first win under new coach, Bai Malleh Wadda, with a 1-0 defeat of Bakau Katchikally Milan. Real played the entirety of the second half with a numerical disadvantage after Ebrima Singhateh was sent off for an early bath with two yellow cards towards the end of the first stanza.
However, they took home all three points as substitute Ebrima Jatta headed in with his first touch after coming from the bench. The win saw Real de Banjul moved to third with 24 points, two adrift of second place Brikama United.
Matches continue today as Hawks and Wallidan renew their rivalry when they meet in the early kickoff. The Blue Boys are 10th with 15 points, while Hawks are a point and two places above them on the table. Twelve position Gamtel will lock horns with 7th place Waa Banjul in the 10pm game.
