Rampant Fortune Wallops Ports in Memorial Cup

Fortune dominated and walloped The Gambia Ports Authority 3-0 in the ongoing Late Alhaji Omar Sey Memorial Tournament in a match played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.

In what was both sides opening game in Group B of the championship, the Petroleum Boys dominated the match from start to finish with a goal each from Muhammad Sambou, Lamin Saidykhan and substitute Assan Njie to send their team to the top of the standings with maximum three points and condemned Ports to bottom place at the end of the evening.

Fortune’s good start to the game paid off in the 19th minute went striker Muhammad Sambou capped off a great team work as he shot the ball past the helpless Baboucarr Sonko in goal for the Ferry Boys to give his side a 1-0 lead, a result they took to the break.

Fortune continue to dominate possession after the break and added a second in the 53rd minute through Lamin Saidykhan who finished another spectacular team effort which was built from the back. The ball went to Musa Njie playing left on the Fortune attack after taking a touch with his head before squaring it to Muhammad Sambou who stylishly backed hill to Saidykhan to beautifully bury the ball home. As if that wasn’t enough of an embarrassment, Fortune weren’t done yet as second half substitute Assan Njie who came in for the first goal scorer made it 3-0 as he beat the offside trap before coolly finishing the ball, sending the Fortune fans into wild celebrations.

GPA were second best throughout the match and will be looking to put today’s disappointing result behind them when they take on Hawks in their second group match in Banjul on Friday.
